Block.one Funds Open-Source Crowdfunding Platform on EOS

EOS Nation and EOS Asia are excited to announce that we’ve received a grant from Block.one to build an open-source crowdfunding platform on EOS to unlock funding for projects that bring value to EOS and the greater EOSIO community.

Inspired by Gitcoin, the platform enables users to contribute EOS tokens directly to projects seeking funding. Projects that are providing a public good for the community will have contributions matched from a pool of funds initially provided by Block.one and other matching partners. Matching will leverage quadratic funding to allocate more matching funds to the projects who have received more contributions from more unique users. The platform’s goal is to help developers within the community capture the value they create and grow the developer population. The platform is voluntarily self-funded, democratically driven, carefully administered, and aims to help the community become more independent.

Block.one has committed to provide funds for the initial matching rounds when the platform goes live. We’re very excited about this news, not only in terms of the projects that could be funded and supported by the platform, but also what it means for the bigger picture of the EOS Mainnet.

EOS Nation has been working towards implementing a WPS-like system for a long time and we have finally reached this significant milestone!

We’re very happy to have Block.one as a member of the greater EOS community and we appreciate their direct support. EOS Nation and EOS Asia are honoured to be able to receive such a grant.

Development is already underway, and we look forward to sharing more details soon.

Dan Larimer Actively Rejoins EOS Community

Dan Larimer is back and active in the EOS community! After leaving Block.one at the end of 2020 and taking 2 months to finish and publish his newest book, More Equal Animals, Dan is now back on Telegram with all of us and taking an active role in the EOS community. From regular audio calls in the EOS Telegram group, to setting up the new EOSCommunity.org forum to foster more efficient communications and discussion about EOS topics, it’s clear that Dan is working hard as a dedicated EOS community member. It’s been great to see!

There are 2 main areas of focus for Dan right now: the ClarionOS communication protocol and the EdenOS governance proposal. While ClarionOS is not being built on EOS, it could leverage it in certain ways in the future. It’s being built in such a way that doesn’t require a blockchain or any tokens to operate, which means there will be no pre-sale or ICO to raise funds for the project. Dan has confirmed that he’s funding the development team himself, which now includes former staff members of Block.one such as “Todd, Mike M, Steven W, Brandon F” and others. Join the ClarionOS Telegram channel to learn more about the project.

His other area of focus is the new EOS governance proposal, temporarily called EdenOS, that Dan submitted on the newly formed EOS Community forum. We encourage everyone to register to the forum and read the proposal that will surely be a hot topic of discussion in the coming weeks. While we won’t get into the details here, we do want to highlight that the new governance model proposed in his recent book known as “political playoffs” is exactly what Dan would like to see on EOS.

Want to learn more about “political playoffs”? Check out Dan’s recent Cryptowriter interview.

Want to learn more about how political playoffs could be applied to EOS governance? Tune in on Friday to the Everything EOS podcast on YouTube where Dan Larimer and Yves La Rose will discuss political playoffs and how it could potentially be incorporated into the governance model of EOS.

Block.one Resource Library, ULTRA is #BuiltOnEOSIO, Cryptology Asset Group

EOSIO Resource Library

Block.one has launched a new resource library of EOSIO related materials.

This is following the launch of their EOSIO business training, and further restates their commitment to facilitating mass adoption for blockchain technology. The resource library is a storage facility for a variety of resources for blockchain education. Key areas of interest on the new Resource Library include recurring topics, training videos, case studies, and more.

ULTRA BUILT ON EOSIO

Block.one also recently featured Ultra in its #BuiltOnEOSIO series.

Ultra is a budding game distribution project. It’s a blockchain for the video game industry built to attract players, game developers, and influencers. With a mere 15% in commissions, it offers less fees compared to competitors. This offers an attractive package to developers who want to efficiently monetize their products. Leveraging the potential of the EOSIO technology also affords developers the prospects of onboarding new and improved solutions in the ecosystem.

Nicolas Gilot (Co-CEO, Ultra) has this to say about Ultra:

“We are creating a framework which provides new features like game reselling, virtual item creation and trading, and referral systems, all powered by an EOSIO blockchain.

Third party developers and existing businesses within the industry can leverage our framework and user base, which will contribute to an even more flourishing ecosystem.”

The project has four key elements:

  • Game Distribution Platform
  • Incentive Program for Players and Developers
  • A Streaming Platform
  • Pre-Configured Infrastructure/Layer on EOSIO

The introduction of NFTs also introduces a whole new dynamic to the fray. This creates a reward system for players. It also affords developers the prospect of using NFTs to create new in-game features. The involvement of smart contracts also gives developers and players alike to earn revenue from the trade of NFTs.

Check out Block.one’s #BuiltOnEOSIO Ultra feature to learn more.

CRYPTOLOGY ASSET GROUP

Cryptology has purchased $30 million in additional Block. One market shares in a private transaction. The European investment giant now holds approximately 3.4% (on a non-diluted share capital base) of the blockchain powerhouse. This is in pursuance of their 2021 strategy of being one of the most active European actors in the blockchain and cryptocurrency space. Cryptology’s founding investor, Christian Angermayer, had this to say about the acquisition:

“Block.one’s CEO Brendan Blumer is truly one of the most visionary entrepreneurs I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and working with. It has been an honor and a privilege to accompany Block.one on its exciting journey, and I look forward to the full realization of Brendan’s vision for Block.one in the near future.”

Patrick Lowry, Cryptology’s CEO, said:

“Block.one is one of the preeminent players in the entire crypto industry and I am elated to be expanding Cryptology’s exposure to one of our flagship portfolio companies.”

Cryptology is the largest publicly traded holding company for blockchain- and crypto-based business models in Europe. It was co-founded by legendary investor, Mike Novogratz.

#DACATHONGaming & dotGems Team Interview

It’s that time again for another #DACATHON! Running from March 11th to March 26th, this event features all sorts of content from a variety of groups who are building in the EOSIO ecosystem. Make sure to visit the #DACATHON homepage for all the details about the on-going events. Their #DACATHONgaming schedule document is jam-packed with great content from all your favorite EOSIO creators. Make sure to check it out!

As NFTs are all the rage these days, the #DACATHON crew invited the dotGems NFT Studio team for an hour long interview to talk all things NFTs and discuss some of the upcoming events for dotGems. It was the first time we had all 3 co-founders of dotGems together on a stream, we hope you enjoy it! Tune in to the interview and get to know more about the team behind dotGems and the projects we’re working on.

Stéphane Bisson, the dotGems community manager, is currently focused on onboarding the 47 artists who qualified for our first art challenge, the EOS Fan Art Series! Many of these artists come from the Ethereum NFT space and it’s been a pleasure showing them the possibilities that exist in the NFT space on EOS & WAX.

Martin Breuer, the dotGems Art Director, is currently working with various fine arts creators, galleries and art festivals that are all desperately trying to get their start in the NFT space. Martin has  been hosting workshops for these traditional artists and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. We can’t wait to share more details about these exciting projects!

Jana Schiffer, the dotGems resident 3D artist, has been producing fantastic content for dotGems and also working hard to onboard a whole new community of creatives into the EOSIO NFT scene through the dotGems upcoming series, Street Gems. This series focuses on street artists and the fantastic art that they create while engaging them in new and creative ways. For example, we’ll be hosting regular VR street art battles that will showcase various street artists competing against each other to produce new street art in virtual reality!

Breaking The NFT Sound Barrier

Musical NFTs are the next big thing on WAX

We’ve seen a range of tokenized content making waves, ranging from art to games and collectibles. Now WAX is looking to bring users tokenized music as NFTs. The soundtrack may be accompanied by a striking visual, animation or even a music video – there’s a wide range of potential forms it could take.

WAX has an objective for the musical NFT market. Tokenized music is not an entirely alien concept. Musician 3LAU released one of the world’s first NFT music albums on the Ethereum blockchain. He brought in over $11.6 million by selling 33 redeemable musical NFTs over 2 days. However, participation was limited due to outrageous prices. WAX seeks to rectify that divide so everyone can get the opportunity to enjoy all forms of NFTs.

“It is far more impressive to sell 1 million copies of an NFT for $1 each than it is to make a fortune on a handful of sales; and it can be done without outrageous gas fees, unlike on Ethereum. Ethereum cannot process a high volume of sales due to the gas fees.” – William Quigley

WAX is also free to use, even for total newbies. All users need to do is create a WAX Cloud Wallet account, and they’re good to go.

The WAX dream for musical NFTs is to elevate not just the public, but also artists.

“Just like with digital creators, NFTs offer musicians and songwriters a new opportunity for their work to be valued and be remunerated fairly. They also offer fans a unique and fun way to support their favorite artists.” – WAX

Tokenized music affords artists the opportunity to get paid better for their content. This is due to the directness of services, with artists being their own distribution channel. It also creates a more intimate relationship between artists and their fans.

This would not be the first relationship between WAX NFTs and the music industry. A high profile deal between Canadian EDM legend Deadmau5 and Emanate culminated in the launch of Deadmau5 collectibles on WAX in December 2020.

Emanate Listening Party

Emanate has launched the Emanate Listening Party in a step towards its goal of transforming the music industry.

Emanate is a blockchain-ready music technology platform centered around artists, creativity, and collaboration.

The listening party is a live event that brings together artists and enthusiasts to share music and have fun. The party also comes with special invitation links that could win attendees up to 1000 EMT tokens.

Alcor Exchange

Alcor exchange now features a new DeFi liquidity pool protocol

With Alcor, you can trade any EOSIO tokens for system tokens without third parties. Some key features include:

  • $EOS and $WAX are integrated on the exchange, with the Telos and Proton integrations in the works
  • Fully on-chain matching for limit/market trades etc.
  • Free listing

A cross-chain’s swap is also being worked on for Alcor to boost functionality. And the exchange’s original design has undergone a slight update too, with a dark theme being introduced. For ease of access, the swap function UI was also specifically designed for convenient use on mobile phones.

Heidi Taillefert presents: Vintage Valentines

On top of the physical pieces, this collection also features digital copies, published as Vintage Valentine Card NFTs on the carbon-neutral WAX blockchain.
