dotGems’ Featured Artist Interview: GBK

As we ramp up towards our upcoming first NFT release on EOS, we want to share some more information about this month’s featured artist Gilles Bonugli Kali, known in the EOS community as GBK. We’re very excited about his upcoming collection, GBK Chestahedrons – NFT Artefacts, and we hope this short introduction will entice you to read the full GPK interview.

“I’ve dedicated more than 20 years to capturing the diverse beauty of Earth and its people. A self-taught artist from the south of France, I enjoy the challenge of learning different artistic disciplines from videography to graphic design. My life’s direction has always followed this idiom: “Diversity Makes Sense.” For me, nature, animals, humans, even the Universe could not exist without Diversity. Diversity of plants, trees, minerals, musical styles, human ethnicities and everything else that constitutes our existence. My artistic portfolio represents my commitment to diversity. I recently decided to become a nomadic digital artist, travelling the world with my soulmate Yoshi.”

Here are some of the topics covered in our featured interview:

  • GBK’s experience working with digital art and design
  • The inspiration behind his collection
  • His early days as a genesis EOS community member

Block.one Joins LACChain

In a wide stride towards its goal of promoting the adoption of blockchain technology in Latin America and the Carribean, LACChain has announced the addition of Block.one to the LACChain Global Alliance.

LACChain, launched in 2018, is the brainchild of the International Development Bank (IDB Lab), and already has 40 partners in 12 countries, which includes long standing EOS block producers EOS Costa Rice and EOS Argentina.

In the Memorandum of Understanding cementing the partnership, Block.one is granted the liberty to contribute its quota to the development of the project either by cash or by kind, or maybe both. Marcos Allende, the LACChain Technical Lead, had this to say on the partnership:

“We are very glad to incorporate Block.one as one of the LACChain allies or partners, because Block.one is the largest entity in the EOS world,”

“During the past months, we have attracted and incorporated the EOS community, and within the next few weeks we will release the LACChain EOSIO network.”

“New partners can contribute in kind or in cash or both. Over the collaboration there might be both types of contribution. We try to make sure that every new entity joining the LACChain Alliance has something different to contribute…”

Block.one’s VP of Blockchain Engineering, Bart Wyatt, commented:

“Our goal at Block.one is to change how the world works so that it is more transparent, trustworthy and efficient, which is why we’re excited to join the LACChain alliance,”

“In this technical advisory role, we look forward to helping LACChain drive adoption and awareness of the EOSIO platform through educational programs, deeper technical collaboration and community engagement initiatives.”

Definitely exciting times for the blockchain community in Latin America and the Carribean and we look forward to their upcoming LACChain EOSIO network release.

EOS VC FinLabs on Everything EOS

EOS and Block.one are fast expanding their reach globally, facilitating project development and innovative thinking. All the way from Frankfurt, Germany, Stefan Schutze joined Zach Gall and Chaney Moore on the Everything EOS podcast to provide an insightful exposition on the digital assets management, venture capital, and the FinTech company, FinLabs AG. In case you’ve not heard of them, FinLabs AG is the knight at the forefront of the EOSIO Europe charge for the identification of and investment in high potential EOS projects.

A brief introduction to the background of FinLabs AG revealed its initial preoccupation as a general assets management company, before shifting focus to FinTech in 2014. They ventured into EOS VC duties in 2018.

During the podcast, Stefan was able to share the criteria for receiving an investment from FinLab with the viewers.

Part of these are the project’s utility or proposed utility of EOSIO, and the project’s long term sustainability and profitability. Stefan also gave some insight into how FinLabs found portfolio companies before COVID-19, and how they’ve adapted to the limitations of the pandemic. FinLabs AG took advantage of conferences and blockchain exhibitions to locate high potential projects, as well as considering applications via their official email. Another avenue is for FinLabs AG agents to actively source for projects that fit within the company’s criteria.

BlockBase is Building a DAC

EOS-based storage service provider, BlockBase has announced its move to decentralize the company and move its activities to a Decentralized Autonomous Community via Daclify, according to Lead Architect Ricardo Schiller’s release. Schiller cited long term participation of talent across the BlockBase community, technology adoption via collaboration with other EOSIO projects, and facilitation of a systemic distribution of BTT Tokens as some reasons for the development – and it comes after months of contemplation and deliberations.

In the early days of the newly-announced DAC, key members from the BlockBase team will have veto power “only to avoid edge case disaster scenarios” according to the release. This intervention veto would only be used as a last resort, and the power would be dissolved once the DAC is stable.

Everyone is allowed to join the DAC, either as a custodian or member, although it would be quite difficult to obtain custodian status due to the gradual growth of the number of voters.

More details on how to enter the DAC and participate will be shared soon.

The Origins of CryptoFinney

This week we learned some new information about CryptoFinney, the Cryptowriter’s mysterious character that recently appeared in the EOS community.
